Oil production in the North Sea is a large-scale operation and, so far, Maersk Oil (now acquired by french Total) has extracted more than 2.3 billion barrels of oil. The oil is pumped up from the seabed from numerous oil rigs, and LE34 plays a major role in quality assurance of both rigs and pipelines, helping ensure that the supply of oil is reliable and safe.

Quality and precision under control

The process of extracting oil is a under constant development, with existing oil rigs being relocated and new installations and platforms being established. It is our job to perform the surveys and quality control needed to position the oil rigs precisely and correctly. LE34 has participated in the relocation of more than 150 drilling rigs.

And we are also involved when new rigs, platforms and pipelines are established. We participate in surveys for seismic oil exploration, geophysical and geotechnical surveys prior to establishment of new bore holes and the actual installation of the new oil rigs.

Cut from special cloth

Our chartered land surveyors and survey technicians in LE34 Offshore are cut from special cloth. They have devoted their time to offshore operations since the beginning of their careers and have gained their experience from complex projects of vital significance to our clients.

Lars Overby, chartered land surveyor and offshore specialist, LE34:

“Our extensive, over 30-year collaboration with Maersk speaks for itself. Our strong points are our exceptionally high professional standard, great flexibility, reliable employees and punctuality.”

Continual checks and annual inspections

Just as the sea is constantly changing, with waves crashing one day and gently lapping the next, the seabed and the position of the oil rigs change too. Over the past 30 years, the Tyra oil rig has sunk five metres. Therefore, we constantly focus on ensuring that we have full details of precisely what is happening and how.

LE34 is able to supply precise data on the conditions due to the thorough control surveys performed annually by our chartered land surveyors and survey technicians.  We use the most sophisticated techniques, such as 3D laser scanning (single-beam and multi-beam), and regularly develop new technologies for resolving the most complex issues. We also perform annual control surveys of both pipelines and oil rigs.

Offshore specialists – as well as onshore

Our employees in LE34 Offshore work both on land and at sea and are, therefore, a constant presence in Maersk Oil/Total’s oil extraction operations.

We have performed a large number of dimension surveys in connection with renovation and maintenance projects. These are conducted both offshore, when a new module is to be positioned, and onshore at Total’s shipyards, when the module is manufactured. We have also performed dimension surveys of numerous new platform structures, such as Halfdan, Tyra South East and Culzean, and regularly deliver as-built documentation throughout the process.
